Choir hits healthy note
AN OPERA singer is hitting the high notes with an a capella choir designed to make its members happier and healthier.
Veronique Chacon from Muswell Hill is stepping out of the spotlight to conduct the new Alexandra Park Library Community Choir.
The 34-year-old, of Alexandra Park Road, who is also a private French tutor, said: "We sing a capella to allow people to develop trust in themselves and develop a sense of listening in another way to each other.
"In fact the goal behind singing together is a really healthy goal because breathing in a more appropriate way can get rid of lots of things like back pain and headaches."
Its 25 members, aged between 30 and 75, meet every Wednesday and are currently perfecting traditional canons like Frere Jacques for a planned Easter concert.
Miss Chacon said the choir's "casual and easy going" ethos meant there were no competing egos vying for attention, and the aim was singing for pleasure.
The choir is looking for more male voices to join the group.
