Plans for Jewish school continue to take shape
PARENTS are launching a bid to set up their own Jewish faith school in the heart of Muswell Hill.
More than 100 families have already expressed an interest in joining the school, dubbed the Haringey Jewish Primary School, which is set to open in September 2011, with four possible sites earmarked in and around the area.
Co-ordinator Peter Kessler, 46, a retired
TV producer, of Lanchester Road, Muswell Hill, said the growing Jewish community in the area has been calling out
for this "revolutionary and pioneering" school.
He said: "The idea is that Judaism as a faith and a source of peace and tolerance and understanding will permeate the school but will still have a secular curriculum."
The campaign group have made it onto a shortlist of 20 other organisations bidding for the government's "free school" status, which would assist them in funding but also require them to split intake based 50 per cent on the child's faith and 50 per cent on their catchment area.
It is thought an office building in the centre of Muswell Hill is the school's preferred choice of location.
