'Buck passing' row in bus stop battle

TRANSPORT and health chiefs have been accused of "passing the buck" over demands for bus services to a new health centre to be improved.

Campaigners have long called for the W7 and 144 bus stop at the top of steep Muswell Hill to be moved claiming it is "dangerous" for less mobile residents travelling to the new Hornsey Neighbourhood Health Centre.

But Hornsey and Wood Green MP Lynne Featherstone claimed Transport for London (TfL) was unaware of the centre's wide range of services and large catchment area stretching across west Haringey despite ongoing talks.

She said: "I am astonished and frankly very angry that despite raising the issue of poor transport to the health centre on many occasions, the health trust hasn't even bothered to make sure that TfL has all the facts and understands just how many people will be using this centre.

"It's so frustrating that no one wants to accept responsibility but the buck stops here."

The bus stop, on a steep slope, serves the only routes running from Muswell Hill to the GP centre in Park Road, Hornsey.

An NHS Haringey spokesman said: "We recognise the importance of good transport links to the new Hornsey health centre.

"We are working with Haringey Council and TfL on the siting of the bus stop at the top of Muswell Hill. Better connections between bus routes will increase access to the health centre.
