Hero dog died saving its owner from blaze
A HERO pet dog died saving its sleeping owner when fire overtook her flat.
Terrified Eve Pearson, 28, was woken by the dog and found herself trapped as smoke filled her second floor flat in Muswell Hill Broadway, Muswell Hill, at 1am on Thursday, July 1.
She was rescued by firefighters in breathing kits, who carried her covered in soot to safety outside.
Ms Pearson paid tribute to her loyal pet.
She said: "My dog died. He was a hero because he woke me up, but he died of smoke inhalation."
Describing her panic at being trapped, she said: "I have lots of stitches in my hands, I tried to jump out of the window on the second floor. It was lucky I didn't succeed because I would have died."
Her friend Oliver Machin, 28, was sleeping on the sofa at the time and was also rescued by firefighters.
A neighbour said fire had blocked the hall and front door and stopped the pair escaping.
Both were rushed to The Whittington Hospital in Magdala Avenue, Archway, suffering from smoke inhalation and were later discharged.
l A 30-year-old man, of East Sussex, appeared at Wood Green Crown Court last Thursday charged with arson with intent to endanger life and two counts of breaching a restraining order. No pleas have been entered and he was remanded in custody to appear on August 26.
