Car crime falling in hotspot

A SCHEME to reduce night-time car crime in Muswell Hill has seen a "significant reduction" in offences.

Street lamps in crime hotspot King's Avenue and Queen's Avenue have been relocated and trees cut back to make it more difficult for thieves to smash in car windows and snatch belongings without being noticed.

Police said there were no vehicle crimes in those two streets since August when the changes were first made, according to crime figures.

Sergeant Dave Williams, of the Fortis Green Safer Neighbourhoods Team, said: "Early signs are that the work being carried out is seeing positive results. It would appear that there has been a significant reduction in vehicle crime."

Residents were told to cut back their hedges by police in August. The lighting was improved by the end of September.
