Nightclubs bid to beat troublemakers
POSTERS of violent criminals will be nailed up at the entrances to nightclubs - so bouncers can decide whether to let them in or not.
The mugshots will be handed out to clubs in Muswell Hill that have opted in to a new scheme in a bid to cut down on gang-related violence, thought to be aggravated by drunkenness.
The images, which will not be visible to the public, will include only those associated with firearm offences.
It will be the first time Haringey police has revealed photographs of known criminals to bars and pubs.
Sergeant Dave Williams, of the Fortis Green Safer Neighbourhoods Team, told residents at a Muswell Hill and Fortis Green Association meeting last Wednesday: "Clubs can now make a judgement and this will give them the necessary information they need about whether to let someone in.
"Hopefully it will have a really positive effect on the area and stop this sort of crime happening again."
Police and club owners came up with the scheme following a shooting at The Hill bar and restaurant in Muswell Hill back in August, where a handful of clubbers were shot and dozens more injured in the crush to escape.
It is the latest in a long line of initiatives to clamp down on anti-social behaviour in Muswell Hill Broadway and surrounding streets, thought to be caused by drunken revellers leaving the cluster of nightspots near the roundabout.
Venues have already put in place an over-21 age policy in most clubs, with an over-25 restriction in The Village, and a "barred from one, barred from all" policy to prevent nuisance clubbers hopping from one club to another.
Sergeant Williams said the posters will be put up in bars including Club U Wish, Café Loco and The Hill.
A police spokeswoman said: "We have entered into an Information Sharing Agreement with some licensed premises in Muswell Hill. It is legally binding and is bound by legislation.
"Providing the clubs with this information will enable them to make decisions about whether or not to refuse entry.
"There are many Information Sharing Agreements in place between various partners in Haringey, however this was the first in Haringey for the sharing of photographs with licensed premises.
