YOUNG bakers are giving a sweet boost to the aid effort in Haiti.

From left, Poppy Miller and Hannah Hill, both nine, and Sorchia Murray, eight, raised hundreds of pounds by selling more than 100 home-cooked cupcakes, brownies and cookies at a sale in the Charlotte Murray hair salon, in Muswell Hill Broadway, on Saturday.

The trio came up with the idea - and even made their own

T-shirts for the occasion - after watching the devastating scenes of the earthquake unfold on the TV news.

Charlotte Murray, proud mum of eight-year-old Sorchia and owner of the salon, said: "My daughter and her two friends made £265.19 in three cold hours. They were really determined. People were very kind and donated money as well as buying their home-made cakes."

The money was given to Oxfam just a few doors down from the salon.
